Dr. Eric Spence, University of Toronto

Python and Twitter

Techniques for using Python to access the Twitter stream will be presented. Basic approaches for studying Twitter data, such as analysing trending hashtags, friendship networks, and geographic distributions of tweets, will be developed. Python will be used to geographically locate Twitter users, and to visualize the location using Google maps. Beginner-level Python programming experience will be assumed. Participants are strongly encouraged to acquire a Twitter account before the workshop starts.
